Autobiography, Pieces of Me and a Manatee: Our Designs Explained

· Style & Merch

Every design in our store has a reason to be there. Here is what each one shows, and where it comes from.

What is on the Autobiography designs?

Two of our four designs are built around Autobiography, my 2004 debut and my first number one album.

  • Ashlee Simpson Autobiography Cover: the album cover photo on the front. I look out from under a dark fringe against a teal, chalk-scrawled wall, with ashlee simpson in pink pixel letters and the title in white hand-drawn capitals above me.
  • Ashlee Simpson Autobiography Front and Back: a quieter take. The front carries only my pink wordmark and the handwritten title, and the full cover photo sits on the back, its edges faded out.

Why is there a manatee?

Ashlee Simpson Pieces of Me Manatee is our most unexpected design, and maybe our favourite. A smiling manatee drifts through deep blue water, framed by roots and rocks with torn-paper edges, and the chorus of Pieces of Me curves around its head in hand-written capitals. Pieces of Me was my very first single and went top five on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2004, so it had to be here. Why a manatee? Because it makes people smile before they read the words.

And the WOO HOO!?

Ashlee Simpson Woo Hoo is pure fun: a bald yellow cartoon dad throws both fists in the air under a big WOO HOO!, a cheeky nod to the most famous cartoon family to share my surname. It's the one to wear when you need a laugh.

Which garments do they come on?

Each design comes on tees, long sleeves, crewnecks and hoodies, and on kids' and youth sizes. Every product page says exactly what is on the front and the back.
